About Our Library

The 6th through 8th grade Middle School years are a dynamic time for any student. Physically, intellectually and emotionally, these years are about change. We offer students a safe and secure small "family feel" in the midst of a large, vibrant and dynamic campus where students can learn, make friends, and get involved. West Middle School strives to meet the needs of the young adolescent for social interaction, achievement, structure, meaningful participation in groups and physical activity.

Our library has a multitude of books, reference materials, magazines, and videos.  Online searching is available on fifteen in-house student computers.  We currently have access to high-quality databases which include Encyclopedia Britannica Online, EBSCO, Gale, Career Cruising, Britannica American West, American Indian Histories & Culture, Spanish Reference Center, Britannica Global Reference Center, Encyclopedia Juvenil and two sources for digital books: Follett Shelf and Overdrive.

 Our Collection:

  • Appropriate collections of resources and equipment for classroom instruction as well as individual users, with these collections organized for easy accessibility, optimum use,
  • Efficient and attractive working areas for students and faculty, and a supportive and pleasant environment;
  • Effective management of library and is based upon a continuing needs assessment and input from faculty, administrators, and students.

Mrs. Rutledge

Welcome to West MS Library. This year is my 21st year in education. I am a graduate of Prairie View A&M University and Texas Woman University. It is my honor and privilege to be the librarian at West Middle School. One of my deepest passions is helping students (and faculty/staff) to become independent life-long readers. Here at West students are welcome to come to the library as early as 7:30 to read, study, check out/return books, etc. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
